A few of us completed part or all of the Around The Bay. Lance, Lawrie, Christine and Linda rode the 100k from Melbourne to Frankston and back. Neither Linda nor Christine had ridden more than 50-60k previously, so weren't sure how they would go - especially as 40kph winds were forecast for the return journey from Frankston. They need not have worried, as they completed the trip with something in reserve. Lance was almost home having his shower before the rest of us arrived back in Melbourne. Not bad for an octogenarian, (who averaged 27kph + on the way down to Frankston, despite stopping for numerous traffic lights). Chris, who seems to be so willing to take on anything that I can imagine him trying to skydive without a parachute to see if he could survive it, rode the 210k on a tandem with Alan, who is vision impaired. They haplessly endured a broken chain, that although repaired after a fashion, meant that they had to finish the ride with only one gear. Twelve hours later....... and this was on top of completing the Melbourne marathon the Sunday before, which followed on closely from earning a gold medal with Alan in the masters events held recently. All in all, lots of good fun for we intrepid MRCC members, with anticipation of more opportunities for camaraderie ahead.
